How to Determine If a Cat Is Overheating?

1. The most direct sign of a cat overheating is rapid breathing, and in severe cases, they may even pant heavily, similar to dogs, with their tongues sticking out.

2. An elevated body temperature and a racing heartbeat are also common symptoms. You can check if the cat's nose is red, dry, and hot, indicating a body temperature of around 4142 degrees Celsius.

Without immediate cooling measures, this can lead to severe brain damage or even death.

3. In severe cases, cats may exhibit signs of dehydration, such as frothing at the mouth, sunken eyes, red tongue, dry mouth, and decreased skin elasticity. In more extreme cases, seizures and coma may occur, posing a serious threat to the cat's life.

What to Do After a Cat Overheats?

1. Upon discovering that your cat is overheating, immediately lower the temperature of the environment and assist the cat in cooling down.

2. If the cat's temperature remains high, you can immerse it in cool water until it reaches approximately 3940 degrees Celsius, then maintain this temperature.

3. Provide plenty of water for the cat. If dehydration is a concern, take the cat to a veterinarian immediately or use a syringe to administer a small amount of saltwater.

During the hot summer months, it's especially important to ensure your cat has access to ample, fresh water, maintain good air circulation, place the cat's bed in a shaded area, and provide a cooling mat to prevent overheating.

Pet owners can also use air conditioning or fans for their cats, but avoid direct blowing to prevent the cat from catching a cold.
