The Habits of Male and Female Cats
1. Male Cats
Male kittens are quite mischievous during their early stages, especially when they are around 3 to 4 months old and begin to grow their teeth and claws. This is when they particularly enjoy scratching the sofa to file their claws and biting objects to exercise their teeth. Owning a single cat can lead to damaged furniture in your home, but imagine the chaos if you have five or six! It can be as terrifying as a Husky on the loose.
The behavior of male cats becomes even more restless during their mating season. They start jumping around the house at night, making it impossible to get a good night's sleep if your bedroom door is left open. Male cats can be neutered as early as six months old, and once they have undergone this procedure, they tend to calm down and become less boisterous.
2. Female Cats
While each cat has its own unique personality, most female cats are generally gentle and docile. However, during their estrous period, their temperament can change dramatically. Even the most serene and calm female cat can become irritable and may loudly and sorrowfully call out at night.
Of course, female cats can also be spayed, but the process is more complex and the recovery time is longer than for male cats. This is because spaying a female cat involves removing the uterus, whereas neutering a male cat simply requires the removal of the testicles. Therefore, after spaying, female cats require extra care and attention from their owners.
If owners decide not to spay their female cats, it can increase the risk of ovarian cancer. Moreover, after giving birth, the care and feeding of the kittens can be quite burdensome. Male cats in heat may also urinate indoors and attempt to escape the home in search of a mate. The mating season can be a painful time for cats, and they are also more susceptible to reproductive health issues.
For new cat owners, it may be best to consider adopting a male cat, as they are generally easier and simpler to care for than female cats. However, if you have a special connection with a cat, their gender should not be a concern.
