As your cat grows more familiar with you and builds trust, adapting to the home environment, it will start to come to you of its own accord, seeking your affection, and engaging in play. It's at this point that your cat's true nature begins to shine through, showing its playful and mischievous side, and causing all sorts of antics around the house.

So, how can you tell if your feline friend is truly happy living with you?

01. Your Cat Is Comfortable Being Held and Petted

Petting a cat is a soothing and delightful experience that can ease away your worries. No matter how stressed you are, the mere act of holding and stroking your little furball, listening to its purring, can transform your mood and leave you feeling relaxed.

One of the benefits of owning a cat is its ability to subtly alleviate anxiety and help stabilize your emotions and temper. If you were once someone with a short fuse and little patience, you might notice a significant change in your demeanor after adopting a cat, as you'll find yourself becoming more patient.

To gauge whether your cat is happy living with you, observe if it enjoys being held and petted. If your cat doesn't resist and shows a high level of tolerance and patience towards you, it's a sign that it's content. Only when a cat feels at ease will it exhibit a relaxed demeanor; if it's unhappy or lacks security, it will avoid you at all costs.

02. Your Cat's Mental State Is Positive

Your cat's mental wellbeing encompasses not just its diet and weight but also its temperament and mood.

If your cat is living a happy life with you, it will have a voracious appetite, eat more, and consequently gain weight. A happy cat is one that eats, sleeps, basks in the sun, plays, and then eats and sleeps again, worryfree. These cats are also particularly playful and enjoy interacting with their human companions.

When a cat is relaxed, it will exhibit behaviors that come naturally to it; however, if it's anxious or scared, and feels out of place in its surroundings, it will focus on selfprotection and won't engage with you.

03. Your Cat Always Seems to Be by Your Side

Sometimes, when you turn around, you'll find your cat right there, as if it's watching over you. This behavior stems from the cat's deep affection for you and its perception of you as its most important person. It's why cats want to be as close to you as possible.

Cats that behave this way are undoubtedly happy; they wouldn't choose to be around someone who makes them unhappy. (And you, as the owner, would feel the same way.)

04. The Content Purring Sound

When cats purr, it can mean many things, but the most common interpretation is that they are happy and content. You can hear this purring sound when you pet your cat or sleep with it, accompanied by a relaxed expression that can't help but put you at ease as well.

Moreover, the purring sound has a "healing" effect. If you're feeling烦躁, just a few minutes of listening to the purring can make you feel much more relaxed. Make sure to spend quality time with your cat, as the sound of purring can be incredibly comforting.

05. Showing Its Belly

Cats usually don't show their bellies unless they're with someone they trust completely. This is because they don't worry about being attacked when their stomach is exposed, making it one of the behaviors they exhibit when they feel happy.

Remember, though, that showing you its belly doesn't mean your cat wants you to stroke its stomach; that might backfire. Instead, just pet its head.

06. Blinking When Making Eye Contact

If cats lock eyes with each other, it's often a sign of impending conflict, a form of "proving" in feline etiquette. However, if your cat blinks slowly when making eye contact with you, it's a sign that it's not challenging you but rather playfully teasing.

This kind of blinking is a sign of trust and a friendly gesture from your cat. If you return the affection with a loving blink, it can draw your cat closer and lead to even more joyful interactions.

In essence, to ensure your cat is happy, make sure it has a wellbalanced diet, plenty of playtime, and be sparing with scolding. Cats have simple desires, and they don't need much to be content. After all, they're not very big, and their "wants" are minimal. Cheers!
