Part 1: Common Diseases Dogs Face in Spring

1. Skin Issues

Spring brings with it a moist climate, often accompanied by prolonged periods of humidity, which can lead to a perfect breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. This environment can result in dogs contracting eczema, ringworm, and allergic dermatitis, among other skin conditions.

2. Dog Flu

The temperature fluctuations between day and night in spring can be quite drastic, making it easy for dogs to catch a cold if they're not properly protected. Puppies and senior dogs, with their weaker immune systems, are particularly susceptible. Additionally, the increased likelihood of dogs getting dirty in the spring, coupled with frequent bathing, can heighten the risk of catching a cold.

3. Gastrointestinal Problems

Seasonal changes can disrupt a dog's gastrointestinal function, and with the warmer weather, there's a higher chance of food spoilage and bacterial growth. Consuming unfresh food can lead to vomiting and diarrhea, common gastrointestinal issues in dogs during this time.

Part 2: What to Keep in Mind When Caring for Dogs in Spring

1. Hygiene

During spring, it's crucial to maintain a clean indoor environment. If the space is particularly damp, take your dog out for sunbaths to keep their fur dry and clean, which also serves as a natural antibacterial measure. You might also consider using dehumidifiers or moistureabsorbing packs to reduce indoor humidity.

2. Temperature Control

On cooler nights, ensure your dog stays warm by providing a slightly thinner bed and avoiding letting them sleep directly on cold floors. Also, make sure to dry and blowdry your dog's coat promptly after bathing to prevent colds, flu, or skin infections.

3. Nutritional Support

Spring marks the start of shedding for dogs, with a significant amount of hair loss. It's important to supplement their diet with more fruits and vegetables to provide vitamins. You can also give your dog vitamin supplements, fish oil, and lecithin to enhance skin and coat health, stimulate hair growth, and boost their overall immunity.

4. Parasite Control

With the warming weather, parasites become more active. Regular deworming is essential to prevent your dog from being infested with ticks, fleas, lice, roundworms, tapeworms, and hookworms, which can affect their skin, intestines, and other organs. Puppies aged 45 days to 1 year should be dewormed monthly, while adult dogs over 1 year can be dewormed every 2 to 3 months.

Dogs face various challenges throughout the year, so it's not just about taking care of them during spring. Consistent attention to their health will help maintain their robust physique, reducing the likelihood of illness in any season.
