Effective Dog Injection Technique: Step-by-Step Guide
The Dog Vaccination Process
1. Purchasing the Vaccines
When you buy the vaccines, you'll notice that the red bottle contains the diluent, while the blue bottle holds the vaccine itself. It's crucial to ensure that the anticounterfeiting labels on the caps are intact when making your purchase.
The vaccines should be stored at a temperature of 28°C. Here are some important considerations for transportation and storage: bring a thermal container with ice packs, place the vaccines inside, and if possible, use a car fridge. If you're not going to vaccinate immediately, store the vaccines in the refrigerator's cold storage compartment.
2. Preparing for the Injection
Before you begin, gather all the necessary tools: alcohol, cotton balls, and a disposable syringe.
3. The Injection Steps
① Pour the alcohol into a clean container. Tear the cotton balls into appropriate sizes and soak them in the alcohol.
② First, disinfect the mouth of the red bottle containing the diluent with the alcohol. Once the alcohol has evaporated (the same for the blue bottle), use the syringe to draw out the diluted liquid from the red bottle.
③ Remove the anticounterfeiting label from the blue bottle (the vaccine). Inject the diluted liquid from the red bottle into the blue bottle containing the vaccine. Gently shake to mix.
④ After shaking, remove the mixture and push the needle into the syringe to expel any air. It's best to see the bottom of the syringe when removing the air.
⑤ Clean the area where the dog will be vaccinated with alcohol (usually a subcutaneous injection in the neck area), but wait for the alcohol to evaporate before administering the injection.
⑥ Position the dog properly. With one hand, gently lift the skin at the injection site, and with the other, hold the syringe parallel to the dog's body and inject (this method is less likely to harm the dog).
⑦ After the injection, press a dry cotton ball against the injection site to stop the bleeding. Even after the task is complete, it's important to calm the dog's emotions.
