Guiding a Giant Dog: Tips for Little Girls
,
A large dog's weight can range from 40 pounds to 40 kilograms, and after staying indoors for a day or seeing other dogs wanting to play, the scene can be quite "beautiful"~ So, are there any methods to help us walk large dogs? Here are some methods I have compiled:
1. First and foremost, we must understand that "dogs should not be pulled while walking!" Many people, especially women, experience red, sore palms and even falls when walking large dogs. When facing a large dog, we must be clear that the method is definitely not pulling! For large dogs, strength is not our forte, and we should not rely on this approach to control the dog!
To walk a large dog well, we first need to understand the reasons for the dog's pulling and get the dog to follow our pace.
2. Adjust your mindset. Have you ever seen elderly people walking large dogs, with the dogs charging or running around? No, right? On one hand, those large dogs that charge with the elderly are often sent back to their children. On the other hand, most dogs are smart enough to sense their owner's mood. They either slow down and walk with the owner or take a few steps and turn back to wait for the owner. Why does your dog charge when you walk? Is it bullying you? In fact, it is, or it is your "screaming" and "running" that reinforce this behavior.
3. Correct "running" and other bad behaviors. Some may say, "If the dog starts to charge, you won't be pulled over if you don't follow." In fact, that's not true. It is said that "Xia Sa Milan," known as "Report Dog Captain," can walk 17 dogs at the same time, and there are also pet owners who have more than one dog. If it really depends on strength, who can compete with these dogs? Here's a small method to correct a dog's bad habits: when the large dog starts to charge, pull the leash, stand firm, and try not to move.
The dog will still charge, but when it realizes that the owner is not running, it may first stop and look back to see "what's going on," and then turn back to walk to the owner. At this time, the owner should pat the dog to encourage it, even give it a treat, and then continue walking. If the dog charges again, stop and wait again. Of course, smart dogs may also stand still at a distance and wait for you. In this case, there are two other methods.
4. Play the "Follow Me" game. When the dog charges, turn around and walk back. Or grab the leash and take a few steps backward. The backward movement will attract the dog to come to you. When the dog approaches, reward it immediately. Sometimes after a few rounds, the dog will be completely confused about your rhythm and will follow you.
5. Practice walking side by side. One simple and effective method is to give rewards while walking with the dog. Make it clear that staying by your side will result in rewards.
This method will keep the dog's attention on you when you go out for a walk. This training method must ensure that the dog is interested in treats and does not eat too quickly.
6. Increase physical activity. When a large dog starts to go out for a walk, increase its physical activity. This will help the dog become accustomed to walking and reduce the chance of it pulling on the leash.
