If a cat remains calm and friendly with its usual family members but fears visitors, it's often because it didn't have enough experience making new friends when it was young. Can we help such adorable creatures become more comfortable around humans? Absolutely, we can!

During the Kitten Stage:

Expose your little one to the world

In the eyes of a kitten, men, women, adults, and children can all seem like different species. Just like human infants, all "humans" are novel and exciting to them. Therefore, during the kitten's early days, try to introduce it to a variety of people, and after each encounter, offer a small reward.

Once the kitten has received a reward, it will realize that this is a worthwhile endeavor and will be more inclined to participate. As it grows up, it may not be as fearful of humans.

For Adult Cats:

Focus on the person, not the cat

For adult cats, their personalities might already be set. So, our focus should shift to the people around them. If you're expecting guests, especially those who are particularly interested in the cat, here are some tips:

1. Educate Your Visitors:

Do not approach the cat or run excitedly to hug it. Guests should go about their business, naturally moving around the room and engaging in conversation with the host. They should wait patiently for the cat to approach them for interaction.

If the cat remains hidden, try using its favorite treats to entice it, offering some delicious snacks to win its favor.

2. Choose the Right Interaction Method and Be Patient:

If the cat is willing to interact, taller individuals can crouch down or sit to engage with the kitten. This makes you seem smaller to them.

Stay calm (avoid excessive excitement like "Wow, it's so cute!") and avoid direct eye contact (which cats perceive as a challenge or an intention to attack), or the little one might dart away!

3. Respect the Cat's Temperament and Do Not Force Interaction:

Cats have short attention spans and may lose interest in playing after a few minutes. If this happens, let them go without forcing them to stay. Later, you can try using treats, cat toys, or other items to attract the cat and attempt another interaction.

Respect and Understanding:

We all find kittens incredibly adorable and can't help but want to cuddle and play with them. However, we must also respect and accommodate their personalities. Never force interaction or be overly aggressive, as this can cause the cat to become stressed or even scratched, leading to an unpleasant experience for both parties.
