Cats enjoy twice as much sleep as humans, but unlike us, they don't sleep deeply. Instead, they take several naps throughout the day, allowing them to rise at any time during the night. Lions, the granddaddies of the feline family, spend about 20 hours a day in slumber.

Research reveals that threequarters of a cat's sleep is actually brief naps. This means that while it may seem like they're sleeping for 16 hours a day, they're actually only dozing for about 4 hours. Just like humans, cats adopt a variety of sleeping positions, from sprawled out to seated, and even on their backs at times. Cats often dream while sleeping, but their dreams are merely a series of chirps and murmurs. When experiencing a nightmare, they may wake up with their eyes wide open.

Cats are very particular about where they choose to rest their heads. During the summer, they can pinpoint a spot that is both cool and wellventilated, while in winter, they find a cozy, warm haven. Moreover, cats follow the sun's movement, shifting their sleeping locations multiple times. They are like sunflowers, always facing the sun.

Cats are also quite cautious, remaining alert even when at rest or sleeping. At the slightest sound or sight of something unusual, they'll immediately snap their eyes wide open, holding them still, ready to flee at a moment's notice. They won't casually disengage until they're confident there's no threat. When encountering something unfamiliar but nonthreatening, cats often curiously use their front paws to probe and stir the object.
