How to Feed Cat Milk Powder: A Step-by-Step Guide

Feeding Stages Suitable for Nursing:

Not all kittens are fortunate enough to receive their mother's milk from birth. What should you do in such cases? That's when artificial nursing comes into play!

On average, the daily feeding amount is approximately 30ml of substitute milk per 100g of the kitten's body weight, with the milk being administered in small, frequent portions.

During the weaning transition period, which typically spans around 12 months, kittens gradually move from breastfeeding to consuming solid food. When it's time to wean, it's advisable to start with formula milk and then slowly transition to cat food.

Even cats that have been spayed, those who have recently given birth, or those that are underweight and sick can benefit from milk to supplement their nutrition.

Milk products are rich in vitamins and easily digestible animal proteins, making them a natural and beneficial nutritional supplement for cats.

When preparing formula milk, it's best to use lukewarm water around 50°C, which should be cooled to about 38°C, the approximate body temperature. Allow the kitten to lap it up or feed it using a bottle.

Opt for catspecific formula milk whenever possible. If needed, you can use lactosefree milk as a temporary solution (as some cats may be lactose intolerant).

Avoid feeding kittens whose body temperature is below 35°C. If a kitten's ears or paws feel cold to the touch, gently rub them to help raise their body temperature before feeding.

Master the Correct Feeding Position:

Position the kitten so that its hind legs are on the ground and its head is upright. Gently insert the nipple into the kitten's mouth on one side, allowing it to suckle from the bottle. Never force the milk into the kitten's mouth. After each feeding, tilt the kitten's head downward and pat it gently to prevent milk from entering the lungs and causing aspiration pneumonia.

Choose a reputable brand of kitten formula, as young kittens are particularly fragile and consuming counterfeit milk can be lifethreatening.
