In Southern California, Professor Goldman of Ethology at the University of California has explained that the astonishing reaction exhibited by cats is due to their unfamiliarity with the sight of a cucumber on the ground. This is a natural response when encountering something new. Moreover, when a cat suddenly spots a cucumber behind it, it instinctively evaluates whether the vegetable is a green snake, a formidable predator to felines. Upon feeling startled, the cat will quickly retreat to a safe distance before confirming the object from afar, a behavior deeply rooted in their nature. This is why the flyinglike reaction captured in the video occurs.
Humans share this experience. If you suddenly present something unseen to someone, they too might instinctively maintain a safe distance out of surprise before identifying the object.
