There are certain foods that are absolute delicacies for humans, but they can be deadly poison for dogs. If you indulge your dog in eating the same foods as you simply because it enjoys them, that's not love; it's actually harmful! While human cuisine may be quite appealing to our furry friends in terms of taste, from a nutritional standpoint, leftovers can be nothing short of junk food for dogs. Let's explore the reasons why these leftovers can turn into health hazards for our canine companions.

① Nutrient Loss and Destruction:

Cooked food can contain an excessive amount of fats and carbohydrates, which are high in calories and can lead to obesity in dogs. Excess weight can cause a range of health issues, including pancreatitis and diabetes, as well as organ problems due to obesity. The cooking process alters the food's composition, making the nutrients it contains unsuitable for dogs to absorb, posing significant health risks.

② Seasonings Are Harmful:

To enhance the appearance, taste, and texture of dishes, chefs often add oils, salts, vinegars, soy sauce, and monosodium glutamate. These highly purified ingredients can be too much for dogs, leading to overconsumption. Foods rich in alliums, such as scallions, onions, chilies, and Sichuan peppercorns, whether raw or cooked, can irritate a dog's gastrointestinal tract and cause inflammation. Onions, in particular, contain toxic substances that can damage red blood cells, leading to anemia and harming the dog's bone marrow.

Salt and sugar are also deadly for dogs. Many human foods are high in salt, which can be difficult for dogs to excrete. Excessive salt can lead to increased tear production, excessive eye discharge, hair loss, and even kidney problems. Sugar is bad for a dog's teeth and can lead to obesity, increased kidney workload, and dental caries, diabetes, and endocrine disorders.

③ Not Conforming to Dogs' Digestive Patterns:

Human diets contain a significant amount of rough fiber from plant components, which can be challenging for dogs. Carbohydrates are also not suitable for dogs to digest. Humans are advanced omnivores, but dogs are originally pure carnivores, only becoming primarily meateating omnivores after nearly ten thousand years of domestication. A pet dog's intestines are shorter, only about 34 times the length of its body, making it difficult for them to digest excessive carbohydrates and more efficient at absorbing meat nutrients.

The most convenient and healthy food for dogs is highquality dog food. Beneficial gut bacteria can help dogs utilize the nutrients they consume effectively, improving their quality of life. Feed your dog highquality dog food as the main staple and occasionally prepare some healthy treats. Also, be sure to supplement your dog with probiotics to prevent it from getting sick easily.

What to Feed a Sick Dog with a Cold: When a dog has a cold, its sense of smell becomes extremely poor, which is also a significant factor in its loss of appetite. In such cases, we can offer it foods with a strong aroma to stimulate its appetite. Additionally, mixing meat broth or minced meat with dog food can greatly boost its appetite. However, it's important to control the ratio of minced meat to dog food, as dogs are sick and their overall body functions are reduced. Eating too much meat can lead to diarrhea.
