Causes of jaundice in dogs are multifaceted, primarily stemming from an overproduction of bilirubin and issues with its processing and excretion. These can be categorized around the liver into three types: prehepatic (such as "hemolytic jaundice," caused by excessive red blood cell destruction), hepatic (due to liver cell dysfunction), and posthepatic (obstructive) jaundice. In traditional Chinese medicine, jaundice is believed to result from dampheat in the liver and gallbladder, often due to external invasion of dampheat pathogens, or due to spleen dysfunction leading to internal dampness and heat. This heat and dampness can then accumulate in the liver and gallbladder, disrupting the liver's normal function and causing bile to flow irregularly, leading to jaundice. Dogs with jaundice may exhibit yellowing of the skin and conjunctiva, greenish or brownish urine, red and yellowish mucous membranes, yellowishtacky tongue coating, and sometimes a fever. They may also appear listless, with a decreased appetite.
Treatment Options:
1. Administer 2 to 4 milliliters of Hepatoprotective and Biliary Tonifier, along with 0.25 to 0.5 grams of Vitamin C, either intramuscularly or intravenously, once or twice daily.

3. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment focuses on clearing heat, promoting bile flow, and regulating the liver's Qi. A typical prescription includes 30 grams of Yin Chen, 30 grams of Chai Hu, 15 grams of Qing Pi, 15 grams of Zhi Shi, 20 grams of Long Dan Cao, 15 grams of Bai Shao, and 10 grams of Gan Cao.
