Caring for Nursing Puppies: Essential Tips for Success
Caring for Puppies During the Nursing Period
1. In the first four days postpartum, the owner must constantly monitor the puppies to ensure they are not injured and are getting enough milk.
2. After the fifth day, you can start taking the puppies and the mother dog outside for sunbathing and fresh air, but only during sunny and pleasant weather. Aim for two sessions a day, each lasting about half an hour. The ultraviolet light in the sun can kill bacteria on the puppies, promote bone marrow development, and prevent rickets. Once the puppies can walk, you can gradually introduce them to short outdoor walks, increasing the duration over time.
3. Around the 13th day, the puppies will start to open their eyes. Until then, avoid forcibly opening their eyes and protect them from bright light to prevent eye damage, even if they try to open them themselves.
4. After the 20th day, the mother dog can accompany the puppies to explore freely, without time limits, always during clear and sunny weather. Keep the puppies warm and prevent them from catching a cold. If they get wet, use a dry towel to dry them off immediately and return them to their nest. It's also a good idea to trim their nails to prevent them from scratching the mother's breasts during nursing.
5. At one month of age, deworm the puppies. Regularly brush and clean the puppies to maintain their cleanliness. In summary, the care for nursing puppies should include: ensuring adequate nutrition, guaranteeing sufficient sleep, allowing appropriate exercise, and maintaining good hygiene.
