Dealing with Excessive Dander on Dogs: My Experience

Recently, I was startled to discover that my dog was covered in a lot of dandruff. After searching online for numerous tips and tricks, some suggested it might be due to dry skin and recommended adding fish oil to its diet. Others claimed it could be a fungal infection, and using a product like洁尔阴 could clear it up after a few washes. However, we tried both methods, and they made no difference at all...

After a week, my dog started scratching its skin frequently, sometimes even rubbing against the legs of chairs. Upon inspecting the area, I noticed several red bumps had appeared where the dandruff was previously. I consulted a vet, who suspected it was a skin condition. The next day, I took my furry friend to a pet hospital for a skin scraping test, confirming it was a bacterial infection, and the diagnosis was superficial pyoderma.

The vet prescribed an antibiotic and a pet spray, but the antibiotic cost nearly 6 yuan per tablet, and the 60ml bottle of skin antibacterial spray was a staggering 190 yuan! It was incredibly expensive!

Then, I had a brainstorm and bought a different brand of pet antibacterial spray, which was less than a third of the price, and the antibiotic was roughly the same as at the hospital. For convenience's sake, I decided to purchase both. After a few days of treatment, the red bumps on my dog had significantly diminished, and the dandruff was completely gone!

(3Day Treatment Effect)

Treatment Steps:

Thoroughly inspect your dog's entire body for skin issues. If necessary, shave the affected areas, but only enough to get a clear view without removing all the hair.

Use a finetooth comb to gently remove the dandruff, being careful not to be too aggressive.

After applying the spray, put your dog in an Elizabethan collar for a few minutes to prevent it from licking off the medication. Although this spray is safe to ingest, it can affect the effectiveness of the treatment.

If there are many bumps, apply a layer of Fluconazole (an ointment containing zinc oxide) after using the spray. Initially, the vet didn't prescribe the ointment because the area near the armpits was not thoroughly checked. Later, I discovered that there were quite a few bumps there, and the combination of the spray and antibiotic was not as effective. The red bumps remained, so I consulted an online vet and started using the ointment in addition to the spray and antibiotic. After three days, the bumps diminished at an astonishing rate.

The antibiotic is called Cefadroxil Tablets, taken once a day, and continue until the symptoms disappear, plus an additional 23 days.

Personal Recommendations:

When you notice your dog has a skin infection, don't delay in seeking veterinary care. A skin examination costs only a few dozen yuan and is well worth the investment, as it can quickly determine the type of skin condition your pet is suffering from.

After the examination, you can choose to purchase medication at the hospital or online, depending on your personal circumstances. However, avoid blindly trusting online "lowcost home remedies," as they can not only waste your time but also potentially worsen your dog's condition!
