Has your little pup been shedding tears, perhaps after a playful scuffle, feeling lonely, or maybe just too upset because it missed out on a treat today?

Rest assured, your furry friend isn't crying due to a bad mood. Dogs typically shed tears for different reasons, often related to their eyes.

Just like humans, dogs have tear glands that naturally produce tears to keep their eyes moist. However, any excess tears flow through tiny tear ducts into the nasolacrimal ducts, eventually reaching the nose.

Most research suggests that when dogs feel sad, lost, or in pain, they usually express their emotions through specific sounds, whining, howling, or hiding, rather than shedding tears.

So, if your dog is frequently shedding tears, it's crucial to pay attention to its health!

Why Does My Dog Keep Crying? Here’s What You Need to Know:

1. Too Much Salt in Their Diet

A diet high in salt can lead to excessive tear production, causing frequent tears and severe tear stains.

How to Handle It:

Adjust your dog's diet immediately and avoid feeding highsodium foods.

Ensure your dog eats plenty of fruits and vegetables and stays wellhydrated.

Use Shine Crystal (Jinyinhua Eye Wash) to care for your dog's eyes and alleviate dryness and discomfort.

2. Foreign Objects Irritating the Eyes

Things like dust, hair, strong odors, or disinfectants can irritate a dog's eyes.

How to Handle It:

Provide a clean and comfortable living environment for your dog.

Regularly clean your dog's food and water bowls, toys, and living space.

3. Entropion or Inverted Eyelashes

When a dog's eyelids roll inward or it has inverted eyelashes, they can constantly irritate the eyes, leading to excessive tear production.

How to Handle It:

Regularly trim the hair around your dog's eyes to prevent irritation.

For a permanent solution, consider surgical treatment from a veterinarian.

4. Ear Infections

Since the head's internal organs are interconnected, ear infections like ear mites, bacterial otitis externa, otitis media, and Malassezia infections can cause your dog to cry.

How to Handle It:

Use Erufen (Pet Ear Care Solution) to clean your dog's ear discharge regularly.

After cleaning, apply Xin'er Ning (Bifungal Miconazole Ointment) once a day.

For severe otitis media, seek veterinary treatment promptly.

5. Eye Infections

Infections like conjunctivitis, keratitis, and blepharitis, often caused by bacteria or viruses, can lead to excessive tearing in dogs, usually accompanied by redness, pain, frequent blinking, and scratching.

How to Handle It:

For mild infections, try cleaning the eye discharge with saline solution.

Use antibacterial and antiviral eye drops, such as Bailangming (Neomycin Sulfate Eye Drops), and observe for 5 to 7 days.

If your dog's conjunctiva becomes cloudy or home treatment is ineffective, seek veterinary care immediately.

6. Nasolacrimal Duct Blockage

When a dog's nasolacrimal ducts are narrow, inflamed, or blocked, they can't properly drain tears, causing excess tears to flow out of the corners of the eyes.

How to Handle It:

Regularly clean your dog's tears and, if you have tear stains, use a 20% saline solution and 80% boric acid solution for wiping.

Use a warm towel to apply heat to your dog's nasolacrimal ducts, gently massaging in circles for 15 minutes each day.

If symptoms do not improve, consult a veterinarian for duct flushing or surgery for a permanent fix.

7. BreedSpecific Issues

Some dog breeds, like Persians and Bulldogs, have unique facial structures that can cause tears to accumulate around the eyes due to their exposure.

How to Handle It:

This issue cannot be completely resolved, so consider surgical treatment or enhanced daily care based on the situation.
