Care Instructions for Kitten Care:

1. Prepare a Sleeping Area for the Kitten

Firstly, ensure you have a clean box or basket for the kitten to rest in. Line it with soft, warm blankets or a pet bed. In colder weather, you can place a heating pad underneath the blanket, but be cautious not to overheat it. The delicate skin of a young kitten can't withstand extreme heat for long, which could lead to fatal consequences. It's crucial to monitor the temperature closely; more heat is not necessarily better for the kitten's wellbeing.

2. Document the Kitten's Physical Features and Weight

In a household with multiple cats, it's essential for the caregiver to keep track of each kitten's distinctive features and weight. This helps in providing proper care without any mixups in feeding. Before each feeding session, weigh the kitten to observe any consistent weight gain. If the kitten loses weight after feeding, it may indicate a health issue.

3. Feeding and Urination for the Kitten

When feeding the kitten, purchase a specialized kitten milk formula and mix it with warm water. Use a syringe without a needle to draw the milk and gently feed it to the kitten. Since kittens don't have a welldeveloped reflex to expel foreign objects from their throats, feeding must be done with extreme care. Hold the kitten gently on your lap or a blanket, insert the syringe into its mouth, and gently push while feeling for swallowing. Initially, feed the kitten about 12 milliliters, then monitor for about one to two hours to ensure the kitten's stomach adapts to the formula. If no abnormalities are observed, you can feed again after two hours. It's important to ensure the milk is at the right temperature and fresh to avoid gastrointestinal issues that could be lifethreatening.

For urination, use a damp wipe, soft cloth, or cotton ball to gently wipe the kitten's bottom to stimulate elimination. Without the mother cat's licks to prompt the kitten to urinate, the caregiver must assist in this process temporarily.

Newborn kittens are incredibly fragile. They lack the ability to control their body temperature and do not have a vomiting reflex. Therefore, extra patience and attention are required when caring for a young kitten.
