Step 1

Firstly, gather some small pieces of bread that are appealing to your dog's attention. It doesn't matter what you use as an incentive, just ensure it captures their interest. Once you have their attention, call them over to you. As they focus on the treat in your hand, say, "Attention!" Pause for a moment, and then command, "Catch" (you can choose any command that suits your preference).

Step 2

Next, throw the small bread pieces in an arclike motion. Since they are lightweight, they will fall slowly, giving your dog ample time to react and attempt to catch them. Be sure to toss the bread about 10 centimeters in front of your dog's head. If the treat is missed, immediately retrieve it to prevent your dog from eating it and throw it again. This is crucial to reinforce the message: "If you don't catch it, you can't have it!"

Step 3

At the beginning of the training, your dog will likely only lift their front legs to catch the treat, as the height of the throw is not very high. If your dog consistently catches the treat, you can then reduce the size of the bread by half. If they continue to catch it effortlessly, shape the bread into small balls to increase the speed of the object's movement, thereby enhancing your dog's judgment and speed.

Step 4

Once your dog can catch objects as large as dog food, increase the difficulty by throwing the treats higher. This will encourage them to lift their back legs as well. You can throw the treats to the left or right of your dog's head to guide their back legs into action.

Step 5

With consistent practice, your dog should grasp the essence of this training within half a day.

Key Points to Remember:

1. Always use a command before throwing the treat; commands are essential for maintaining your dog's focus.

2. Initially, limit the number of training sessions to avoid overexerting your dog. Start with about 10 throws and gradually increase as your dog becomes more comfortable.

3. Pay attention to your dog's mood and ensure they are still willing to participate in the training.

4. After your dog completes an action, don't forget to reward them with a treat to encourage them.
