Section 1: Causes and Symptoms of Rabbit Foot Dermatitis

The primary causes of foot dermatitis in rabbits can be attributed to two main factors:

1. An uneven floor or inappropriate material used in the construction of the cage bottom board can lead to sharp edges, causing the rabbit's feet to be scraped.

2. Failure to promptly clean the rabbit's urine and feces can lead to wetting of the cage floor or wire mesh, creating a moist environment that is conducive to foot inflammation. Foot dermatitis often results in the rabbit developing bald patches on the soles, red and swollen skin, and hair loss. Over time, the soles may develop scars and ulcers, with blood and lymph fluid oozing from the wounds. The wounds can then continue to expand, with increasing amounts of blood渗出.

Additionally, rabbits with larger body sizes, abundant energy, and soft fur are more susceptible to foot dermatitis.

When a rabbit has foot dermatitis, it may constantly switch its limbs to support its body, giving the appearance of a rabbit dancing. However, pet owners must not be complacent. It is crucial to inspect the rabbit's feet immediately and seek treatment promptly. Foot dermatitis can lead to a decrease in appetite, weight loss, and ultimately, death in affected rabbits.

Section 2: Treatment Methods for Rabbit Foot Dermatitis

The treatment for foot dermatitis is lengthy and prone to recurrence, making it a challenging condition. However, with careful attention and proper care from the owner, it can be effectively cured. Here are some treatment options:

1. Gently remove all hard skin and remaining fur from the affected area of the rabbit's foot. After cleaning the area, disinfect the wound with iodine and then wrap the injury with a bandage. Mild cases typically heal within 20 days, while severe cases may require repeating the process 1 to 2 times.

2. In the early stages of the disease, owners can apply lime water to the wound. The mixture is prepared by combining lime and water in a 1:2 ratio. Apply the mixture once, and then reapply it after 4 to 5 days. This method is effective for earlystage symptoms but less so for later stages.

3. Use Fish Oil Salve for treatment. This ointment is effective for surgical inflammation and has no side effects. It has antibacterial properties, promotes blood circulation, and aids in the growth of granulation and epithelial tissues. Application: Clean the wound, remove any necrotic tissue, and then apply a layer of Fish Oil Salve. Treatment usually requires two applications, with one application every 5 days in summer and every 7 days in winter.

4. This method is similar to the first, but instead of removing the skin and fur, simply apply iodine to the wound, followed by erythromycin ointment. Then, wrap the wound with a bandage, starting from the affected area and wrapping towards the wound. Note: Do not wrap it too tightly; gently squeeze the bandage to promote healing.
