Teach Your Cat to Lie Down and Play Dead on 'Bang' Comm
Your cat will soon be the envy of everyone, a smart and extraordinary feline.
How can you train your cat to squat down?
Choose a quiet room, close the windows and doors, and turn on the air conditioner to create a safe and comfortable environment for your cat.
Cats have acute hearing, and any rustling outside can distract their attention.
Before training, avoid feeding your cat too much; a full belly might make them less cooperative. Prepare a special treat, like fish snacks or freezedried food that's different from their regular meals.
Cats can assume various squatting positions, from a natural crouch to a relaxed 'hedgehog' posture.
So, how do we teach our cat to understand foreign language commands? Point at the cat with your index finger, curling the other four fingers, and say, "Squat down." If the cat doesn't understand, try "squat down" or "Sit down," but they may still not grasp it.
Instead, teach them through body language: lift the front legs, lower the back legs, and let the bottom touch the ground.
Repetition is key. Point at the cat and say "Squat down," guiding them through the motion. Reward them with a treat when they successfully squat down.
Cats are intelligent and can quickly learn the "squat" command, but they can also be forgetful, so daily practice is essential to reinforce the behavior.
The "squat" command is great for building your cat's obedience, as it often precedes other commands. The 'hedgehog' posture, also known as the 'cushion' posture, is a more relaxed version:
Ready to train your cat to "fake dead" with a "bang" sound?
After your cat has mastered the "squat" command, you can introduce the "fake dead" command. Point at the cat with your index finger, curling the other four fingers. The cat will squat down.
Open your thumb and index finger to form an Lshape, and make a "bang" sound. The cat might be confused at first.
Guide the cat into the lying down position and pet them gently, holding the pose for 10 seconds or more. Then, repeatedly give the "squat" and "lie down" commands.
Offer a small piece of freezedried food as a reward after the cat completes the command. The key to training is consistency and rewards. Start by rewarding any attempt at the lying down motion, then gradually increase the duration of the pose, and even use the "bang" command to encourage them to lie down again when they're about to get up.
If you have more than one cat, they can learn faster. They can learn from each other and be motivated by the sight of their smarter companions being rewarded with treats.
