Care Instructions for Raising Young Rabbits

1. Strengthening Rearing Management

Feeding young rabbits requires a diet that is compact, nutritionally comprehensive, easy to digest, and palatable. It is crucial to provide them with an adequate amount of roughage to prevent issues like soft stools and diarrhea, which can be fatal. The feed must be clean and fresh at all times, and feeding should be done in small, frequent portions. Avoid overfeeding and gradually increase the amount of food as the rabbits grow older, without making sudden or drastic changes to their diet.

2. Grouping Young Rabbits for Rearing

According to the rabbits' strength and age, it is important to group them appropriately. For cageraised rabbits, a good rule of thumb is to keep 3 to 4 young rabbits per cage to avoid overcrowding, which can severely hinder their normal development. In a group setting, rabbits can be kept in groups of 8 to 10.

3. Maintaining a Clean and Dry Living Environment for Young Rabbits

A clean and dry environment is beneficial for rabbit rearing, as it helps control the growth of bacteria, fungi, and rabbit pathogens. Since young rabbits have underdeveloped immune systems, it is essential for the keeper to maintain strict hygiene in the rabbitry. The keeper should clean the pens daily, remove droppings promptly, and regularly change the bedding in the cages.

4. Implementing Rabbits' Disease Prevention Measures

Two to four days before weaning, young rabbits should be vaccinated against rabbit hemorrhagic disease with a subcutaneous injection of 1ml.

At 25 to 35 days of age, add a small amount of diquat to the rabbits' feed, administering 1ml per rabbit daily.

Between 35 to 45 days, prevent coccidiosis by adding chloroquine to the feed, with two doses of 1 tablet per rabbit per day.

From 45 to 55 days, prevent Pasteurella multocida and upper respiratory infections by adding a small amount of oxacillin to the feed, with two doses of 1 tablet per rabbit per day.

Between 60 to 70 days, administer a second dose of the rabbit hemorrhagic disease vaccine to strengthen prevention efforts.
