Rabbit Rearing Guidelines

1. During the 30 to 45day age period, it is crucial to administer the Myxomatosis monovalent vaccine to the young rabbits, with each rabbit receiving 1ml. During this phase, the kits typically need to be fed milk once a day. It is advisable to feed the kits before sunrise, as the mother rabbit's milk production is at its peak then, gradually decreasing as the sun rises.

2. For recently weaned kits, feeding should be done in small, frequent portions. Aim to feed the young rabbits four times a day with pellets, at 6 AM, 11 AM, 4 PM, and just before the rabbits go to sleep. It is strictly forbidden to provide a full day's worth of feed at once.

3. For kits weighing less than 1kg, it's best to limit or avoid feeding them fresh greens. Kits should not be allowed to consume greens with their mothers before weaning.

4. For lactating does and studs ready for breeding, it's beneficial to feed them twice daily with raw peanuts. Provide 5 peanuts in the morning and another 5 in the evening.

5. Ensure a balanced diet for rabbits. Avoid feeding only green grass while neglecting pellets. Pellets should contain 35% to 50% grass powder, preferably lucerne, followed by peanut vines, soybean pods, sweet potato vines, and corn stalks. When using peanut vines in pellets, make sure to chop off the roots and clean off any soil to prevent diarrhea in rabbits.

6. During the day, feed rabbits pellets, and before bedtime, offer a small amount of night grass, such as dried wild herbs or other green forage.

7. In the event of a shortage of pellets, do not substitute with chicken feed, as it is not suitable for rabbits and can lead to diarrhea. If pellets are temporarily unavailable, use dried green forage like peanut vines or corn stalks instead, but only after they have been properly dried. Some rabbit farmers mix pig feed with other types of feed, which can lead to reduced breeding capacity or cause constipation and diarrhea in rabbits. It is imperative that owners carefully select rabbitspecific feed.

Oxygen Pet Doctor's Tip: Rabbits should only be fed with rabbitspecific feed. Feeding them with other poultry feed is not suitable and can have serious consequences. Owners should be fully aware of this.
