Abdominal discomfort and other symptoms can be concerning.

If your dog frequently vomits, it's likely that they have consumed too much food or ingested something indigestible. However, this could also indicate more serious issues, such as dehydration or diarrhea.

Dehydration is a common problem in dogs and can lead to severe complications, necessitating immediate attention and careful observation. The primary cause of dehydration is a lack of water in the dog's body, which often occurs when the dog loses more fluids than it takes in. Typically, a dog's body is composed of about 80% water, which is essential for maintaining circulation, digestion, and waste elimination.

Signs of Dehydration:

1. Check your dog's nose for moisture, coolness, and stickiness. A wet nose suggests a lower risk of dehydration. If it appears dry and sticky, your dog may be dehydrated.

2. Assessing Dehydration:

Again, examine your dog's nose for moisture, coolness, and stickiness. A wet nose indicates a lower risk of dehydration. If it looks dry and sticky, dehydration may be a concern.

Additionally, pinch the skin on the back of your dog's neck and hold it for a minute. If the skin stays pinched, it's another sign of dehydration.

Diarrhea Symptoms:

1. Provide Adequate Water:

Dogs contain a significant amount of water (fluids), accounting for about threequarters of their total body weight. When a dog lacks the necessary amount of liquid, they may become dehydrated. The best treatment is to ensure they have access to plenty of water, which can help prevent dehydration.

2. Rest and Allowance:

Let your dog rest and indulge in it. Avoid taking them for walks or playing, as any form of exercise, such as walking, running, or playing, can deplete their body of fluids, leading to dehydration and a lack of energy. However, in cases of mild diarrhea or indigestion, a slow and gentle walk can be beneficial.

3. Fast for 1224 Hours:

If your dog is dehydrated or has diarrhea, it's advisable to let them fast for at least 1024 hours, ensuring they have enough water to drink. Fasting can help prevent further stomach discomfort due to additional gastrointestinal issues and allow the digestive system to rest and recover. For puppies, a fast of 1012 hours is sufficient, while for older or larger dogs, a fast of 2024 hours is recommended.

4. Keep Warm and Relaxed:

Check your dog's body temperature, which should be between 37.2 to 38.3 degrees Celsius. If your dog has a fever, provide them with a soft bed to keep them warm. Cover them with a soft blanket to encourage rest and sleep.

5. Start with a Light Diet:

After fasting for 1224 hours, you can begin introducing a light diet.

For puppies, start with a quarter of their normal amount after 12 hours.

For larger and adult dogs, start with a third of their normal amount after 2024 hours.

Avoid starting with regular food. Begin with a light diet, which is easier to digest and provides immediate energy.

For their first meal, white rice is a great option.

How to Cook White Rice:

Boil 1 cup of white rice in 4 cups of water for 2030 minutes (until it becomes thick and milky).

Do not add salt or sugar, but you can add a tablespoon of chicken powder for flavor. Wait until the soup reaches room temperature before serving.

White rice is particularly suitable for dogs with stomach issues.

There are also other light foods that can be included.

Dog's Light Diet:

Ingredients: 1. Boiled chicken, 2. Plain yogurt, 3. Boiled pumpkin.

Ingredient Ratios:

About 50% of the cooked rice and the remaining 50% can be any combination of one, two, or all three ingredients.

Food Quantities:

For puppies, 34 tablespoons are sufficient, while for larger dogs, you can give them 58 tablespoons.

Stomach Pain:

If you suspect your dog is suffering from stomach pain, a stomach warm compress might be beneficial. Fill a treatment bag with a small amount of warm water for a stomach compress. Alternatively, you can use a towel and place it under your dog's belly for treatment. Always ensure that your dog enjoys this method and is comfortable with it. If your dog dislikes it or tries to escape, stop immediately.

Is your dog suffering from stomach issues or diarrhea? Or do you prefer to feed your dog natural, healthy human foods? Discover these foods, which can also be beneficial for you. Examples include mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cooked carrot puree, and many other foods.

It's equally important to know which human foods are safe under normal circumstances but can be dangerous for dogs with stomach discomfort, leading to serious health issues. You must be aware of how to avoid these situations, such as raw milk, seaweed, cheese, peanut butter, chocolate, grapes, and more.
