Primarily, the issue lies in significant temperature fluctuations, particularly during seasons with vast differences between day and night. Many young puppies, especially those new to their homes, may not fare well after a grooming session that leaves them without their natural insulation. Without adequate warmth at night, they are prone to catching a chill quickly, leading to symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea.

Spending extended periods lying on cold floors, with their bellies in direct contact with the cold surface, can also lead to a chill. It's essential to always have a cozy bed pad on hand for them.

When our young pups fall ill, we often find ourselves in a reactive position. The proactive approach is to ensure they are wellprepared with proper insulation. Dress them in small, warm outfits, and always provide a soft bed with a pad during sleep.

New dog owners often place their new arrivals on balconies, thinking it might help them acclimate to the new environment. While these spaces might offer ventilation, they are not ideal for young dogs.

While balconies can be warm in the summer, they can become quite chilly during winter, especially if not properly sealed. Therefore, it's best not to keep your dog's bed on a balcony, and if it must be there, the bed should be wellinsulated and windproof.

My personal recommendation is to keep your dog in a location that is as sheltered from the wind as possible.

Coldaverse dogs tend to shiver, much like humans do when we're cold. Observing if your dog shivers for extended periods, if the shivering is frequent, or if it's a fullbody shiver can help determine if they're feeling too cold.

Coldsensitive dogs often have a habit of curling up to retain heat. This huddling together helps ensure that warmth is not lost too rapidly.

Keep an eye on your dog's stool to prevent chills. A dog's stool can indicate their overall health, and diarrhea might be a sign that your pup has caught a chill.

When young dogs catch a cold due to exposure, they may exhibit symptoms such as runny noses, diarrhea, watery eyes, and a lack of appetite and energy.

If your puppy has caught a chill, it's crucial to address the issue promptly. Ensure they are wellwarmed and seek veterinary care as needed. Remember, maintaining warmth is key.
