Don't judge a neutered cat for its seemingly dopey demeanor—it's all due to the anesthetic. In reality, their inner turmoil is quite intense, filled with anxiety, fear, and a touch of anger. Even with the Elizabethan collar, they might appear calm on the way home from the vet, but once they've regained their strength, they can become quite the whirlwind.

So, what should we do after a cat is neutered?

1. Keep an eye on the anesthetic effects and ensure your cat's waste is cleared promptly. Male cats might not blink, so consider applying eye drops at regular intervals.

2. Wait at least 6 hours after surgery to start feeding your cat. Postanesthesia, provide a quiet and clean environment, and avoid excessive affection or disturbances.

3. If you have multiple cats at home, isolate them to prevent licking each other's wounds. Keep the Elizabethan collar on for at least 7 days.

4. Monitor your cat's condition closely. If there's discharge from the wound or a rise in temperature within 23 days, which might indicate infection, don't hesitate to take them to the vet for treatment!

5. Pay attention to their diet. Generally, the postsurgery formula cans from the vet contain antibiotics to prevent infections. However, reputable clinics do not advocate for intravenous antibiotics after surgery, as they can be uncomfortable for the cat and are not always necessary. So, be vigilant, as proper care usually minimizes the risk of infection. The formula cans are specifically designed for postsurgery cats.

Some cats might experience a lack of appetite after surgery. The formula cans can effectively stimulate their appetite, as the anesthetic side effects and the weakened state of the cat can impact their eating. Encouraging them to eat and boosting their appetite is crucial.

Most importantly, the formula cans ensure a balanced diet! Postsurgery, cats need nutrition to maintain their health, and these cans also prevent constipation or diarrhea. For female cats, especially, constipation should be avoided, as straining can easily cause the suture to come loose.

What if you can't find postsurgery formula cans? Don't worry! Houmi has prepared a homemade recipe for you. How thoughtful is that? Save it for later!

Recipe: Mix chicken puree, liver puree, fish puree (or beef puree), and an egg (avoid large amounts of liver). Stir well without adding any seasoning and steam until cooked. Feed this mixture to your cat (recommend at least twice a day), adding 1/6 of a先锋六 tablet and one lactase tablet. (You can stop the medication after 3 days.) Ensure your cat has access to regular cat food and water.

Lastly, after neutering, cats may experience hormonal changes, leading to overeating, excessive sleepiness, and unusually gentle behavior. As their caretakers, we must monitor their diet to prevent them from turning into little pigs.
