In the minds of most people, fats are one of the most challenging nutrients to digest. As a result, many dietary recommendations for cats suffering from chronic digestive system disorders often suggest lower fat content. Consequently, a scientist conducted an experiment:
They divided 60 cats suffering from chronic diarrhea into two groups. One group was fed a lowfat diet (with fats accounting for 24% of the total calories in the food), while the other group was given a highfat diet (with fats making up 45% of the total calories). This experiment lasted for 6 weeks, during which the scientist monitored and recorded the changes in the cats' feces daily.
The results of the experiment were as follows:
1. 78.2% of the cats experienced a 25% increase in the dryness of their feces (meaning that the feces of cats who previously had soft or loose stools became drier and harder);
2. 30% of the cats' feces returned to nearnormal levels;
3. There was no significant difference in the data between the two groups of cats.
This experiment indicates that both lowfat and highfat diets have no impact on a cat's digestive system, and highfat diets do not cause diarrhea in cats. On the contrary, since cats are obligate carnivores, they are highly efficient at digesting and utilizing fats. Cats' ancestors appeared on Earth thirty million years ago, and their diet consisted of various prey, all of which were animal proteins and fats. Over millions of years of evolution, cats have naturally become more adept at digesting animal proteins and fats.
Therefore, the food that is easy for cats to digest, does not burden their digestive system, and is less likely to lead to digestive system diseases is meat. Should we buy meat for our cats every day? Of course not. In reality, they simply require the animal proteins and fats found in meat.
