Symptoms of Fungal Infection in Cats

Feline Ringworm Symptoms

Ringworm in cats, often caused by parasites, typically presents with symptoms such as red spots, generalized redness, itching, dandruff, and hair loss. You may notice ovalshaped lesions on your cat's body, which are often crusted but predominantly flaky. These parasites often lead to systemic skin issues due to their excessive growth and proliferation on the cat's body, ultimately causing dermatitis.

Fungal infections, on the other hand, typically cause severe itching and present with ovalshaped lesions. These areas may lack fur or have very sparse hair due to the intense itching caused by the fungal infection. Cats may scratch or bite at these areas, leading to hair loss and the formation of elliptical or irregularly shaped patches.

Treatment for Feline Ringworm

Whether caused by parasites or fungi, the treatment for ringworm in cats is generally the same. You can use products like Fuant Soft Cream and Funuo Spray, along with a Fuant Shampoo for cats, to effectively treat the condition. Using all three products together can speed up the healing process.

The first step in treating ringworm is to isolate your cat. After isolation, put a collar on your cat to prevent it from licking the affected areas, thereby avoiding the ingestion of fungi or viruses that could lead to gastrointestinal disorders.

Once isolated, it's important to disinfect and sterilize your cat's living area, such as its cage or bed, as these environments can harbor many pathogens. A good recovery environment is crucial to prevent secondary infections.

Applying the medication for ringworm is straightforward. Identify the affected areas and, if the lesions are widespread, consider shaving the entire area to facilitate application. Disinfection can be done using iodine solution on the affected areas. Direct application of the medication is also acceptable; however, the inclusion of disinfectant components in the medication is to ensure better treatment outcomes.

Important Reminder:

While your cat has ringworm, it's important to continue bathing it with a product like Fuant Shampoo, avoiding any that could irritate the wound. Ringworm can be stubborn, and the treatment process may take 4 to 6 weeks. During this time, it's essential to provide your cat with adequate nutrition.
