Many firsttime cat owners, lacking experience, often fall victim to scams. Some pet lovers, in an attempt to save money, purchase cats from other provinces online, only to bring them home after they've traveled through domestic flights and been exposed to sick cats and dogs in live animal compartments. This not only results in emotional distress but also financial losses! What's even more terrifying is that the high demand for treatments for cat flu (drugs developed by pharmaceutical companies, hospitals) has led to many cats being treated to death. A visit to the vet can cost several thousand yuan, and even then, the chances of recovery are slim.

When you discover your cat has cat flu, there are typically two scenarios: either the kitten was diagnosed with it shortly after being brought home with a cat flu test kit, or it was discovered after the cat started vomiting. Typical symptoms of cat flu include a fever of around 40°C, a lack of energy, loss of appetite, persistent vomiting (with vomit that is yellowgreen), and sticky secretions in the mouth, eyes, and nose. Sticky, pasty feces indicate that the animal is in the later stages of the disease.

General symptoms and progression of cat flu:

The first couple of days: The cat may not eat or drink, appear listless. It may have a fever, sometimes recurring, and then the fever subsides before returning.

Days 3 to 4: The cat may start vomiting white or yellow liquid and have diarrhea, with several episodes of diarrhea every hour, and vomiting as well.

Without any treatment measures by days 3 to 4, there will be no days 5 and 6.

The first symptom of cat flu is the lack of appetite and energy, which is also one of the easier symptoms to detect. Some cats may not show this first symptom and instead go straight to the second symptom: vomiting or diarrhea. Cats that skip the first symptom and go straight to the second are considered more severe and urgent.

The most effective way to treat cat flu is to transfuse blood from a cat of the same blood type that has antibodies. This is the best way to restore lost nutrients and quickly address the symptoms. Unfortunately, such treatment conditions are not available in China at present!

What can you do? Give up? It's hard to accept this emotionally! Go to the vet? Is it possible to treat cat flu at home? Absolutely! There's about a 10% chance of spontaneous recovery without treatment!

Key points for home treatment:

1. Most importantly, never give up. As long as the cat's body is warm, there is hope. Just like humans, cats need an optimistic spirit to recover. Even patients with cancer have a chance to recover if they maintain a positive attitude.

2. Don't think that taking it to the vet is the best option. Many cats are actually killed by greedy doctors who use expensive nutritional injections. Many cats have been killed by these doctors.

3. Cats need human companionship at this time. If the cat is a bit more energetic, scratch its chin and belly to amuse it. Of course, don't disturb its sleep or rest.

4. Cats may not eat or drink when they have cat flu, and their bodies can collapse quickly. In this case, you can feed them a mixture of rice gruel and probiotics, about three milliliters at a time (if there is no vomiting within two hours, you can feed it again, about eight times a day). If vomiting occurs immediately, the best course of action is to stop feeding and watering the cat. Don't be sentimental!

Medications needed for treatment: antibiotics, interferon, cat flu inhibitory protein, or cat flu monoclonal antibody. For bleeding, vomiting, and fever control.

It is not recommended to purchase cat flu medications online, as time is of the essence during cat flu, and the few days of shipping can be the difference between life and death for the cat. If you must buy them, choose the closest option that can be delivered the same day!

Finally, a word of comfort:

Once a cat is infected with the cat flu virus, it has already stepped over the threshold of life and death. Simply put: there's a 50% chance of survival, regardless of whether you treat it at home or in a hospital. If it's an adult cat and the infection is detected and treated early, and the cat has a strong immune system, the chances of survival are higher. Conversely, the chances of survival are lower.

For those who choose to treat their cats at home, it's best to ensure that you have enough time to administer the medication. If you can't guarantee this, it's advisable to choose a familiar, reputable hospital for treatment. This is because timely medication is crucial in the early stages of cat flu.
