Section 1: Causes of Dogs Experiencing Discharge from the Urethra

The discharge from a dog's urethra is often a result of irritation and damage to the urethral mucosa due to mechanical and chemical pathogenic factors. This damage can lead to secondary infections following the initial injury.

This condition can be caused by the spread of inflammation from adjacent organs, such as balanitis, cystitis, or endometritis.

Clinical Symptoms of Urethritis in Dogs:

Dogs may exhibit swelling and sensitivity of the penis, with the urethral opening appearing red and swollen. During urethral probing, the dog may show signs of pain and resistance to the insertion of a catheter.

Symptoms include dysuria, difficulty urinating, cloudy urine, and the presence of pus and blood. The urine may stream in a thin line, and the dog may appear visibly uncomfortable and restless.

The dog may experience painful dribbling of urine, with frequent twitching of the penis in male dogs and the vulva remaining open in female dogs during urination due to inflammation.

The urine is often turbid and contains mucus and blood. In some cases, the urethral mucosa may necrotize and slough off.

Section 2: Treatment for Dogs with Urethral Discharge

1. Control secondary infections and inflammation with antibiotics: Administer ceftriaxone at a dose of 20.0 mg/kg intramuscularly, ampicillin at 10.0 mg/kg intramuscularly, and oral roxithromycin at 5.0 mg/kg.

2. Clean the bladder with a 0.1% potassium permanganate solution, and for enhanced effectiveness, combine this with the oral administration of ammonium chloride.

In cases of severe illness, targeted treatment is necessary.
