Section 1: Causes of Feline Cystitis

1. The primary microorganisms responsible for infectious diseases include E. coli, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and Proteus.

2. Inflammation from adjacent organs, such as nephritis, ureteritis, prostatitis, and cystitis, can spread and lead to bladder inflammation. This is particularly true for female dogs, where vaginal and endometritis can easily spread to the bladder.

3. Mechanical injuries, such as catheter damage or urethral stones, can irritate the mucous membranes and trigger an inflammatory response.

Section 2: Clinical Symptoms of Feline Cystitis

1. The primary symptom of painful frequency is, as the name suggests, frequent urination. Affected cats may urinate frequently, but only in small amounts or continuously, often in a dribbling manner, leading to discomfort and restlessness.

2. In severe cases, the mucosa at the bladder neck may swell, or the bladder sphincter may spasm, causing urinary retention and resulting in pain and whining in the cat.

3. While chronic cystitis in cats may present with similar symptoms to acute cystitis, the symptoms are generally milder and the course of the disease is longer.

Section 3: Prevention and Treatment of Feline Cystitis

The principle of treating feline cystitis is primarily to achieve antibacterial and antiinflammatory effects, along with symptomatic treatment.

1. Improve the cat's daily lifestyle by feeding a diet that is nonirritating, easy to digest, and nutritionally rich, ensuring adequate rest.

2. The bladder should be flushed with disinfectant or antiinflammatory medication. Clinically, a catheter is first used to drain the accumulated urine from the cat's bladder, followed by a series of flushes with warm saline solution, and finally, medication is administered.
