The Various Stages of Dragon Fish's Eye Blindness

Stage 1: The Early Stages of Dragon Fish's Eye Blindness

In the initial stages of dragon fish eye blindness, symptoms are often subtle and not easily noticeable. During this phase, the dragon fish's appetite remains relatively normal, but a few white spots or threads may appear on the surface of its eyes. Without close observation, these signs can go unnoticed. The condition is mild and relatively easy to treat at this point.

Treatment at this stage involves simply ensuring regular water changes in the aquarium. Replace one quarter of the water daily, and after a few days of consistent changes, the symptoms of eye blindness should begin to show significant improvement. However, it's crucial to remind pet owners that the hardness and pH levels of the new water should be appropriate, and the temperature of the new water should be as close as possible to the water in the tank to avoid causing secondary harm to the dragon fish due to temperature shock.

Stage 2: The Intermediate Stages of Dragon Fish's Eye Blindness

As the condition progresses to the intermediate stage, the symptoms become more pronounced. Pet owners can easily detect the change during feeding. The dragon fish's eyes will lose their luster, and the white spots and threads on the surface of the eyes will have developed into a visible white mist. A clear film can be seen over the dragon fish's eyes, but the fish's appetite is still good.

For this stage, a combination of water changes, temperature increase, and salt addition, known as the "old three methods," can be used to assist in treatment. In addition to changing one quarter of the water daily, raise the water temperature by 1 to 2 degrees and add salt according to the ratio of 300g salt per 100L of water. After a few days of these treatments, the symptoms of eye blindness can be significantly improved.

Stage 3: The Late Stages of Dragon Fish's Eye Blindness

By the late stage, the dragon fish's eyes become cloudy and swollen, accompanied by the appearance of cottonylike substances. The fish's appetite also diminishes significantly. Treatment at this stage is more challenging than in the earlier phases. The "old three methods" are no longer effective, and medication is necessary to treat the advanced stage of eye blindness.

Without timely treatment, the dragon fish may easily become blind or even die. Treatment for the late stage involves replacing one quarter of the water in the tank daily, raising the water temperature by 1 to 2 degrees, adding oxygen, and introducing medication specifically designed for treating eye blindness in dragon fish, such as Aoshen 3 and 4 or Baofu Ling drugs. These medications can effectively treat the eye blindness disease in dragon fish. Remember to turn off the lights after administering the medication, and change the water two days later. At that time, you can decide whether additional medication is needed based on the dragon fish's condition.
