Canine mastitis, often referred to as breast inflammation, is a highly prevalent and multifaceted condition. It typically peaks in female dogs after the fourth to sixth litter. This condition can arise from various factors, such as breast engorgement, nipple or mammary gland damage due to puppy biting, or pressure and friction on the glands. It is indeed a multifaceted disease affecting lactating females.
Section 2: Symptoms of Canine Mastitis
When dogs are affected by mastitis, they may exhibit a range of symptoms. These include refusing to let puppies nurse, red and swollen breasts, difficulty in milk ejection, and a decrease in milk supply. As the condition worsens, the dog's body temperature may rise. It is confirmed that if a dog has mastitis, pet owners should stop the puppies from nursing and instead opt for artificial feeding. If the dog has mastitis, owners should feed their dogs at intervals, with feeding every two to three hours during the day. At night, milk expression should be done every six hours.
In cases where an abscess has formed in the breast, if it has matured, a surgical procedure to drain the abscess can be performed. If the canine mastitis is chronic and benign, with the formation of mammary tumors, it is essential to seek treatment from a reputable veterinary hospital.
