Section 1: Treatment Methods for Turtle Pneumonia

1. Upon discovering a sick turtle, it is crucial to isolate it immediately and maintain the turtle's living environment at a temperature of approximately 2830°C.

2. Treatment for mild to moderate pneumonia in turtles: Turtles exhibiting symptoms such as runny or watery nose, refusal of food and water, openmouth breathing, and floating on their sides should be treated with medications like Azithromycin or Amoxicillin through water immersion. The dilution ratio is 0.5g of medication per 500ml of water, with the treatment being administered once daily. During this time, oral medication should also be given. Here's how to proceed: Prepare a syringe, fill it with the medication, and when the turtle sticks out its head, use the free hand to open its mouth. Then, gently administer the medication using the syringe. This should be done twice a day.

3. Treatment for severe pneumonia in turtles: If a turtle with pneumonia shows symptoms like pale eye rings, gradual weight loss, bleeding, and retracting its head, it indicates a severe condition. At this stage, the turtle requires injectable medication. Mix 1g of Ceftriaxone sodium in 10ml of water and administer it via intramuscular injection, with each dose being 0.3ml, given twice daily.

Section 2: Nursing Methods for Turtles with Pneumonia

When turtles suffer from pneumonia, their normal breathing function is impaired. Continuing to keep them in water can lead to drowning and exacerbate their pneumonia. Often, even healthy turtles may drown if their breathing is compromised, which can be fatal. Therefore, it's common for turtles with pneumonia to avoid water, as it's a form of selfprotection. If a turtle refuses to go into the water, pet owners should never force them to do so.

For turtles with mild pneumonia that still wish to go into the water, shallow water can be used for their care, ensuring the water level is just above their feet. However, even in shallow water, precautions must be taken to prevent drowning, and a landing platform should be provided for the turtle to rest out of the water.

Turtles with severe pneumonia should be kept in a dry environment, maintaining humidity levels between 4070%. During this period, they should be given water to drink. If a turtle drinks little or refuses to drink, in addition to daily antiinflammatory infusions, they should be supplemented with fluids 12 times a day to prevent dehydration. Solutions like 5% glucose injection or glucose and sodium chloride injection can be used for fluid supplementation.

These are the treatment methods for turtle pneumonia as introduced by Oxygen Pet Doctor. Once a turtle contracts pneumonia, it is imperative for pet owners to seek treatment promptly to avoid further complications and to ensure the turtle's health is not compromised.
