Key Diagnostic Points

(1) The disease can manifest as sporadic or epidemic outbreaks, particularly in densely populated canine areas. It is primarily transmitted through the air via respiratory infection, with a high incidence rate among puppies. Factors such as damp and overcrowded kennels, as well as deficiencies in protein, minerals, and vitamins, can trigger the onset of the illness.

(2) Affected dogs may exhibit coughing, which is most pronounced in the morning. The course of the disease typically lasts for 12 weeks. Without secondary infections, most dogs recover fully.

(3) The disease often occurs in conjunction with other respiratory viruses, leading to a pronounced tracheobronchitis in affected canines.

(4) Laboratory testing and the isolation of the pathogen are essential for diagnosing this condition.

Treatment Methods

(1) Antibiotic therapy is recommended. Options include kanamycin sulfate (2040 mg per kilogram of body weight, administered intratracheally once daily), amikacin sulfate (510 mg per kilogram of body weight, administered intramuscularly twice daily), and gentamicin sulfate (40,00080,000 units per dose, administered intramuscularly twice daily). If possible, appropriate antibiotics should be chosen based on drug sensitivity testing.

(2) Enhance the feeding and management of the dogs to boost their immune resistance, with special attention to preventing cold and keeping warm.

Preventive Measures

Improve the living conditions for the dogs, control the density of the canine population, and, if feasible, administer the appropriate vaccines.
