Symptoms & Treatment of Dog Chalazion: A Comprehensive
Dog Chalazion Symptoms
Chalazions in dogs can be categorized into two types based on the location of infection: external chalazion and internal chalazion. External chalazions typically begin with red and swollen eyelids, accompanied by significant tenderness. After a few days, a firm lump forms near the eyelid margin. Within 3 to 5 days, this lump softens and develops into a yellowish pustule. Internal chalazions present with mild congestion at the meibomian gland opening, and yellowish pustules appear beneath the conjunctiva. These pustules may eventually open on the conjunctival surface, allowing the pus to drain into the conjunctival sac, or they may exit through the meibomian gland opening.
Dog Chalazion Treatment
Fire branding excision: After properly securing the dog, a curved hemostat is used to grasp the inner edge of the chalazion. The surgical blade is then heated to a whitehot state over a flame. It is quickly cut and cauterized along the outer edge of the hemostat, all within a matter of seconds. This procedure does not require any additional止血 measures.
