Section 1: Symptoms of Canine Parvovirus

Canine parvovirus has an incubation period of 714 days, commonly affecting dogs that have recently changed environments (such as newly acquired puppies), after bathing, or following meals. The disease predominantly presents with enteritis symptoms, although a few cases may exhibit myocarditis syndrome.

1. Myocarditis Type

Myocarditis is most common in Golden Retrievers between 46 weeks old. Initially, the symptoms in young Golden Retrievers are often subtle, with the disease beginning without clear signs or merely with mild diarrhea. However, the dogs may suddenly experience heart failure, cyanosis of the mucous membranes, groaning, severe difficulty breathing, rapid pulse, and a heart murmur upon auscultation. These symptoms can lead to death within a few hours.

2. Intestinal Type

The natural infection has an incubation period of 714 days. Initially, Golden Retrievers may show signs of depression, loss of appetite, and vomiting of food, which includes mucus and yellowgreen fluid, accompanied by fever. Within a day of onset, diarrhea begins, with the feces being loose, resembling tomato or coffee in color, and having a foul smell. The dogs may experience frequent bowel movements, rapid weight loss, dehydration, weakened skin elasticity, and eventually loss of consciousness. The duration of mild or severe symptoms in the early stages typically does not exceed two days, and the entire course of the disease usually lasts no more than a week.

Section 2: Treatment for Canine Parvovirus

1. Upon diagnosis, immediately cease feeding and drinking.

2. Treatment should first address diarrhea before dealing with vomiting. Antidiarrheal medications are crucial. It's essential to protect the integrity of the gastrointestinal mucosa to lay the groundwork for medication. In cases of severe mucosal detachment, symptoms may include vomiting and refusal to eat. While treatment can be administered without injections, it must be done under a veterinarian's guidance, and the medication should be taken as directed. The effects typically begin within 24 hours.

3. During the recovery period, if a Golden Retriever is not interested in eating, it's because the intestinal mucosa has not yet healed. Feeding rice porridge is recommended, and no additional ingredients should be added.
