Canine Distemper in Cats: Clinical Symptoms

It's crucial to be extra vigilant if your kitten is young, as feline distemper is a highly contagious and often fatal virus. One of the telltale signs is tomatored diarrhea. Cats with distemper may exhibit symptoms such as loss of appetite, depression, elevated body temperature, vomiting, dehydration, and abdominal pain.

Medical Diagnosis

1. Test Kits: If you use a feline distemper test kit and it comes back positive, remember that these kits are not 100% accurate. For a definitive result, it's essential to have a blood test conducted at a veterinary hospital.

2. Blood Tests: A decrease in white blood cells can confirm the diagnosis. Feline distemper is also known as feline panleukopenia.

Life Tips:

1. Diarrhea: If your cat is suffering from diarrhea, you can use medications like attapulgite powder or Mamy Love to help stop the diarrhea.

2. Antiinflammatory: Administer Vipda to help with inflammation.

3. Monoclonal Antibody Injection: Administer a combination of feline distemper inhibitory protein and interferon (subcutaneous injection) to combat the virus.

4. Preventing Vomiting: If your cat is vomiting excessively, it may be necessary to withhold food and water and inject metoclopramide.

5. Rehydration: Promptly administer fluids to prevent dehydration and potential death.

6. Feeding: Once your cat is feeling slightly better, offer cat food or goat's milk powder. If your cat has not eaten for an extended period, forcefeeding glucose may be necessary.
