Section 1: What is the Savannah Cat?

The Savannah Cat is a breed that embodies the essence of the tropical savannah. This majestic hybrid is the result of crossing an African wildcat (the sire) with a domestic cat (the dam), and typically weighs between 8 to 15 kilograms.

This breed boasts a striking resemblance to a wildcat, with a robust, muscular build that exudes a wild, untamed aura. They are tall and slender, with long legs, a long neck, and a head that is smaller in comparison to their body. Their ears are large, broad, and elongated, adding to their unique and captivating appearance.

Section 2: Why You Should Avoid Owning a Savannah Cat

1. The Savannah Cat is a hybrid of the endangered serval, a species that is classified as a Level II protected animal. As such, the Savannah Cat is considered an indigenous species, and the sale, transport, or trade of this breed is illegal, as it violates national laws and regulations regarding the protection of endangered animals.

2. The "Wildlife Protection Law" and the "Criminal Law" explicitly state that anyone found guilty of illegal hunting, purchasing, transporting, or selling endangered wildlife, including the Savannah Cat, may face a prison sentence of ten years or more, along with fines or the seizure of property.

3. There are unscrupulous individuals who may use deceptive practices to entice consumers into purchasing hybrid animals. It is important to note that the law clearly stipulates that even hybrid offspring of species listed in Appendices I or II of the Convention are under the jurisdiction of the Convention.

4. Although the serval is not native to China and is not listed as a protected species, it is classified as a Level II protected animal under the Washington Convention, which is equivalent to a national Level II protected species. Therefore, it is illegal to keep Savannah Cats without proper authorization.
