Section 1: Symptoms of Rabbit Rhinitis

The primary cause of rabbit rhinitis during spring is the significant temperature fluctuations. This disease is often spread through the air by viruses, leading to respiratory infections. Young rabbits are most susceptible to this condition, and the risk of death is high once infected. While adult rabbits are less likely to contract rhinitis, infections do occur. Early treatment of rhinitis in adult rabbits is relatively straightforward, but if left untreated, the condition can develop into chronic rhinitis, which is much harder to cure and can significantly impact the rabbit's future breeding capabilities.

Symptoms of rabbit rhinitis include the following in young rabbits: difficulty breathing, decreased or complete loss of appetite, which can lead to severe illness and death within 2 to 3 days. In adult rabbits, rhinitis typically presents as a chronic condition, characterized by watery or mucous discharge from the nostrils, frequent sneezing, and possibly the formation of hard crusts around the nostrils, causing breathing difficulties. Affected rabbits may be forced to breathe through their mouths. Chronic rhinitis is challenging to treat, with long treatment times and a gradual decline in appetite, leading to weight loss. In some cases, severe pneumonia can develop as a secondary condition, resulting in death.

Section 2: Prevention and Treatment Methods for Rabbit Rhinitis

Prevention Methods:

Strengthen the management of rabbit husbandry to enhance their ability to resist diseases.

Maintain an appropriate temperature and good ventilation in the rabbit shed.

Ensure the cleanliness of the rabbit shed and perform regular disinfection.

Regularly vaccinate rabbits with the Bara vaccine.

Reduce the density of rabbit breeding.

Isolate and treat rabbits with rhinitis promptly to prevent the spread of infection.

Do not use rabbits with rhinitis as breeding stock and dispose of them accordingly.

Treatment Methods:

The treatment for rabbit rhinitis primarily involves the combined use of penicillin and streptomycin injections. Each injection should contain 200,000 units, administered twice daily for 3 to 5 consecutive days. Additionally, clean the rabbit's nostrils with penicillin and streptomycin, and use chloramphenicol eye drops for nasal instillation.
