Why Don't Cats and Dogs Get Along?

1. Differences in Lifestyle

It's widely known that cats are solitary creatures by nature, with a natural wariness towards the outside world, especially other animals. Dogs, on the other hand, are social animals, curious and fond of company. They love to approach other dogs or small animals, and since dogs are typically larger in size, a sudden approach by an unfamiliar dog can be overwhelming for a cat. Before they become fully acquainted, it's advisable to feed them separately and keep their food bowls apart. This helps prevent them from eating each other's food and reduces the risk of conflicts over territory. They should also have their own play areas. Once they are familiar and get along well, you can try having them eat and play together.

03. Familiarize Them with Each Other's Scent

Before introducing a new pet, it's not necessary to rush them into meeting. Instead, you can introduce each other's common items to allow them to get accustomed to each other's scents. This can help ease any initial resistance and make their first meeting more comfortable. Pay close attention to the cat's mood, as they can be particularly sensitive.

04. Choose the Right Breeds

If you plan to keep both cats and dogs, it's best to choose breeds that are known for their gentle nature. This can make cohabitation easier. Some dogs are naturally predatory and may be too stimulating for cats.
