01. Types of Pet Parasites

While some pet owners may be familiar with the names of common parasites, others might be less acquainted with less frequent ones. Parasites can be categorized into two types: those that reside inside the body and those that live on the outside. These parasites primarily feed on the nutrients of our beloved pets, often leading to diseases as they deplete the pet's body of essential nutrients and may even transmit deadly diseases.

Internal parasites include: roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, heartworms, lungworms, canine lung flukes, tapeworms, canine旋毛虫, liver flukes, toxoplasmosis, canine leishmaniasis, canine eyeworms, canine babesiosis, esophageal worms, canine tongue worms, amoebas, Trypanosoma evansi, coccidia, and others.

External parasites include: mange mites, demodex mites, ear mites, fleas, hard ticks, lung mites, lice, and soft ticks.

02. Misconceptions About Pet Deworming

Misconception 1: Deworming medication can eliminate all types of parasites?

Parasites come in various forms, with both cats and dogs having different external and internal parasites. Each type of deworming medication targets specific parasites, so it's important to choose the right one.

Misconception 2: Deworming pets only once is sufficient?

External deworming medications typically last for a month. Their active ingredients enter the pet's sebaceous glands, providing protection for an entire month.

Misconception 3: Since there are no visible parasites on my pet, external deworming isn't necessary?

Regular monthly deworming is crucial for cats and dogs. Just because you didn't see any parasites last month doesn't mean they're not there. The fleas that you can see with the naked eye represent only 5% of the flea population. The other 95% are eggs and larvae, hidden in the environment and not easily detectable. So, when you spot fleas on your pet, it's likely that your home is already infested. The same applies to other external parasites.

Misconception 4: Diarrhea after giving my pet internal deworming medication is normal?

Diarrhea after administering internal deworming medication could be due to an allergic reaction or adverse effects, and should not be overlooked.

03. Pet Deworming Tips

Before deworming your pet, it's best to consult a professional veterinarian at a pet hospital. Follow their advice to deworm your pet properly, avoid common misconceptions, and ensure your pet grows up happily.
