Part 1: What to Watch Out for When Your Cat is Drooling?

When your cat starts drooling, it's important to consider potential oral health issues. Here are some key points to keep an eye on during your examination:

1. Check the Gums

Normal cat gums should be a light pink, similar to humans. If you notice your cat's gums are red, swollen, and emitting a strong odor, it might indicate periodontal disease, stomatitis, or gingivitis, among other oral health problems.

2. Inspect the Oral Mucosa

Cats that haven't maintained good oral hygiene or are vitamindeficient may suffer from oral ulcers. If you see any significant sores or inflammation in your cat's mouth, it's advisable to seek medical attention or administer medication promptly.

3. Observe the Cat's Mental State

① Cats can also drool due to heatstroke, especially during the summer. If you notice your cat is excessively drooling, appears listless, and shows signs of rapid breathing, move it to a cooler area immediately. In severe cases, a visit to the vet is necessary.

② If your cat is drooling along with vomiting and loss of appetite, it might be due to a foreign object stuck in the esophagus or other esophageal abnormalities.

Part 2: What to Do If Your Cat is Excessively Drooling?

Most of the time, excessive drooling in cats is a sign of discomfort, possibly an early sign of illness. If you're unsure about the cause of your cat's drooling, it's best to take it to the vet right away to prevent more serious conditions.

If you notice gum swelling or oral ulcers, you can use Lekouning Oral Spray and Metronidazole tablets for both external and internal use to help with inflammation and antibacterial treatment. It's also important to maintain your cat's oral hygiene by brushing its teeth 35 times a week to keep its mouth healthy.

Cats usually don't drool due to hunger, but in rare cases, it could be a reaction to licking toxic plants, which can be lifethreatening. Always be vigilant when you notice your cat drooling and don't hesitate to consult an online vet for any uncertainties.
