How to Perform External Deworming for Dogs?

Generally, puppies can start with deworming around two months after birth. External deworming and vaccination can be done simultaneously, as they do not interfere with each other. It is crucial to deworm dogs externally on a regular and proper schedule. Typically, a monthly external deworming is recommended. However, if your dog does not go out often, you can extend the deworming intervals.

There are usually two types of external deworming products for dogs: spoton treatments and sprays. Dog owners should choose the appropriate method based on the specific parasites their dogs may be infected with.

How to Perform External Deworming on Dogs?

Using a Spray:

Hold the spray bottle 1020 centimeters away from your dog's fur and apply the product directly onto the hair, ensuring that the entire body is covered and the fur and skin are soaked.

Massage your dog's fur and body gently to allow the deworming agent to fully coat the skin and hair.

Avoid missing any areas such as the belly, chest, neck, tail, and feet.

Do not spray directly into your dog's eyes. Instead, spray onto a soft cloth and gently wipe your dog's face.

Let your dog's fur air dry naturally; do not use a hairdryer or towel to wipe it off.

Using a SpotOn Treatment:

First, part your dog's neck fur to expose the skin. It is best to choose a spot where your dog cannot lick, usually from the neck to the back.

Apply the deworming solution directly onto the dog's skin. The skin will absorb the medication gradually, ensuring its effects are distributed throughout the body.

Ensure you select a spot where your dog cannot reach to prevent them from licking the medication. This not only ensures the effectiveness of the treatment but also avoids any adverse reactions in dogs.

It is important to note that if you still find parasites on your dog a few days after completing the external deworming, you should take your dog to a veterinary clinic or consult with an online vet for further guidance.
