Rabbits are herbivores, primarily feeding on grasses, but they can also enjoy a moderate amount of fruit and vegetables. During domestication, it's important to provide a balanced diet consisting of hay, fruits, and vegetables. However, not all fruits and vegetables are suitable for rabbits. Today, I'll highlight some fruits and vegetables that rabbits should avoid.

What Fruits and Vegetables Should Rabbits Avoid?

1. Potatoes. Potatoes contain high amounts of protein and calcium, which rabbits cannot digest properly. Moreover, they contain solanine, a compound that increases in potatoes that have turned green or are sprouting. If rabbits consume these potatoes, they can suffer from poisoning, which may lead to respiratory failure in severe cases. Therefore, it's generally not recommended to feed rabbits potatoes.

2. Mustard Greens. Mustard greens are rich in alkaloids that can cause diarrhea and poisoning in rabbits, especially if they consume the flowers and seeds. To keep rabbits healthy, it's best to avoid feeding them mustard greens altogether.

3. Eggplants. Eggplants contain various alkaloids, including solanine and choline, which can lead to gastrointestinal inflammation or diarrhea in rabbits. It's crucial not to feed rabbits eggplants to prevent health issues.

4. Corn and Peanuts. Corn and peanuts are not suitable for rabbits as they can easily spoil and produce toxins. Aflatoxins, a type of toxin found in moldy peanuts and corn, can severely harm rabbits. Therefore, it's advisable not to feed rabbits peanuts or corn, and if you do, ensure the food is fresh and free from mold.

5. Grapes. Rabbits should not eat grapes, as the fruit can damage their kidneys. Even a small amount can have a significant impact on their health, leading to symptoms like repeated vomiting. Consuming grapes can also cause digestive issues, vomiting, diarrhea, and even dental problems and bloating. It's best to avoid feeding rabbits grapes to protect their health.

6. Spicy Vegetables. Spicy vegetables like garlic, onions, chives, scallions, and chili peppers are not suitable for rabbits. These foods are highly刺激性, causing irritation to the intestines and kidneys, which can lead to hair loss, diarrhea, and even death in severe cases. It's important to avoid feeding rabbits spicy vegetables to keep them healthy.

7. Citrus Fruits. Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are also not recommended for rabbits. These fruits are highly acidic and can cause diarrhea and loose stools. Consuming too much or regularly can lead to diabetes.

The examples above are just a few of the foods rabbits should avoid. To ensure your rabbit's health, always be cautious about what you feed them.
