Cats Sniffle with Blood: Is It Due to Heat?
Cat Sneezing with Blood: Symptoms and Causes
1. Heatstroke
When a cat experiences heatstroke, you might notice several symptoms. The cat's nose will become dry and hot, and there may be an increase in eye discharge. The urine will appear darker, and the feces will become hard and dry. This condition often occurs in dry environments or when cats consume dry food for extended periods. Cats suffering from heatstroke may experience nosebleeds. If the blood blocks the nostrils, the cat will sneeze to expel the blood. After stopping the bleeding, the cat should recover. To alleviate heatstroke, pet owners can increase the humidity in the environment and provide wet food for their feline friends.
2. Upper Respiratory Infection
If a cat is sneezing and bleeding from the nose, it could be due to a viral cold. The virus can attack the cat's upper respiratory system, leading to infections in the eyes, nose, and throat. Severe infections can cause inflammation, resulting in the cat sneezing and bleeding. Cats with upper respiratory infections often exhibit symptoms like wheezing and coughing.
3. Nasal Foreign Objects
Cats are naturally curious creatures and may inadvertently ingest or inhale foreign objects, such as seeds from flowers and plants. If these seeds germinate into spores inside the cat's nose, they can cause sinusitis, rhinitis, and mucosal inflammation. These conditions can lead to bleeding inside the cat's nasal passages. When the nasal passages are stimulated, the cat will sneeze and may expel blood.
