Reasons for a Doe's Infertility: Causes and Solutions
Reasons for Difficulty in Rabbit Pregnancy
1. Reproductive Tract Diseases in Does: A common issue that hinders rabbit pregnancy is reproductive tract diseases. Conditions such as ovarian disorders, reproductive tract inflammation, abnormal ovulation, and reproductive function decline can all contribute to this difficulty. Most cases of infertility in does are due to uterine inflammation, which can be exacerbated by inadequate disinfection during artificial insemination and poor cleanliness in the rabbit cages. Uterine inflammation often goes unnoticed until it presents with clinical symptoms, leading to the neglect of does with subclinical inflammation. These does may continue to be bred, resulting in repeated infertility. To address this, it is advisable for owners to thoroughly examine their rabbits for reproductive system diseases before breeding. If any are found, they should be treated before breeding or considered for culling.
2. Overweight Does: Excessive body fat in does can compress their reproductive organs, leading to blocked fallopian tubes and reduced or absent ovulation, ultimately causing infertility or failure to come into heat.
3. Infectious Diseases: Many diseases in rabbits can severely impact fertility, such as Pasteurella multocida, dermatitis, and nutrient deficiencies, which can lead to repeated infertility, miscarriage, or stillbirth in does.
4. Ingestion of Aflatoxins: This year, clinical observations have shown that ingestion of aflatoxins has become a significant cause of repeated infertility in does. Moldy corn can produce these toxins, and if the owner accidentally feeds moldy corn to pregnant does, it can easily lead to miscarriage.
5. Other Factors: In addition to the rabbit's own condition, the quality of the buck's semen plays a crucial role. If the semen quality is low, even a healthy doe may struggle to conceive. High temperatures can significantly affect the quality of the buck's semen, causing testicular atrophy and degeneration. Even after cooling, it takes time for the buck to recover, and breeding should only occur once the buck has returned to normal. Otherwise, the doe may still struggle to become pregnant, despite mating.
