Clinical Symptoms of Canine Parvovirus:

The clinical manifestations can be divided into two main categories: myocarditis and enteritis types. In the early stages of myocarditis, there are generally no obvious symptoms, and the dog may appear healthy on the surface. However, it can suddenly suffer from cardiac insufficiency, irregular heartbeat, heart failure, and respiratory distress, leading to sudden death. Myocarditis symptoms often occur in puppies, and anatomical observations may reveal pulmonary edema, fibrous myocardial edema, myocardial degeneration and necrosis, or enlargement, and softening of the myocardium.

The clinical symptoms of the enteritis type are more pronounced and are commonly seen in dogs suffering from canine distemper. After infection, the dog's body temperature may rise to 39.5~40.5°C, but it can sometimes remain normal. Initially, the dog may show signs of depression, loss of appetite, vomiting, and the feces start to turn grayishyellow, eventually becoming a watery, bloodstreaked diarrhea with a distinctive foul odor. Additionally, due to frequent diarrhea and vomiting, the dog may exhibit watery stools, rapid weight loss, and severe dehydration, leading to sunken conjunctiva and loss of skin elasticity.

If a dog is infected with the parvovirus, if it has an acute onset, it may die within 1~2 days; if it has a chronic onset, the entire process can last about a week. Generally speaking, vomiting and tomato juicelike blood diarrhea can be diagnosed as parvovirus infection.
