Dogs, our loyal companions, can sometimes fall prey to the common cold just like us humans. When a dog is feeling under the weather and decides to catch some Z's, there are symptoms that may manifest even in their slumber. Recognizing these symptoms is crucial for pet owners to take appropriate action and ensure their furry friend's swift recovery.

Snoring and Breathing Issues

One of the first signs that your dog might be suffering from a cold while asleep is snoring or difficulty breathing. A stuffed-up nose can lead to louder than usual snoring or irregular breathing patterns. If your dog's breathing sounds labored or if they seem to be struggling to get air, it's a clear indication that their cold is affecting their respiratory system.

Coughing Fits

Coughing can be a telltale sign of a cold in dogs. While they might not cough continuously during sleep, you may notice sporadic coughing fits that interrupt their rest. This can be particularly concerning if the coughing seems severe or if it's accompanied by phlegm.

Restlessness

Dogs with a cold might toss and turn more than usual during sleep. They may have trouble finding a comfortable position due to congestion or a sore throat. If your dog seems particularly restless or is waking up frequently, it could be a sign that they are not getting the quality rest they need to recover.

Changes in Behavior

You might also notice changes in your dog's behavior when they're asleep and suffering from a cold. They may be less interested in their usual sleep patterns, choosing to sleep more or less than they typically would. Some dogs may also become more clingy or seek out more comfort from their owners during this time.
