Rabies is a serious and often fatal disease that affects the central nervous system of mammals, including dogs. When a dog is in the grip of rabies, the symptoms can be both varied and alarming. During the prodromal phase, the dog may exhibit changes in behavior, but as the disease progresses into the furious stage, the symptoms become more pronounced and severe.

Agitation and Restlessness

One of the hallmark signs of a dog in the rabies furious stage is extreme agitation and restlessness. The animal may pace back and forth, demonstrate an inability to settle down, and may even become aggressive without provocation. This restlessness often escalates into full-blown agitation, leading the dog to engage in frenzied behavior.

Increased Aggression

Aggression is a significant symptom during the rabies outbreak. Dogs may show uncharacteristic aggression towards humans, other animals, and even inanimate objects. This can manifest as growling, snarling, and biting. The aggression is not just limited to physical altercations; it can also include vocalizations such as howling or barking excessively.

Change in Behavior

Dogs with rabies often undergo a dramatic change in behavior. Friendly dogs may become withdrawn and fearful, while normally timid dogs may become overly confident and bold. This behavioral shift can be sudden and unpredictable, making it difficult for owners to manage their pets.
