Five Foods That Can Be Harmful to Dogs:

One: Chocolate Products

It's widely known that chocolate is a "poison" for dogs. This is because chocolate contains substances like caffeine and theobromine, which humans can metabolize and excrete. However, dogs lack this ability.

When a dog accidentally ingests chocolate, it may experience severe vomiting, seizures, and could even lead to heart failure or neurological damage. For some puppies or small dog breeds, as little as 120 grams of chocolate can be fatal. So, pet owners should never let their dogs eat any chocolate products!

Two: Onions and Garlic

Onions and garlic contain a harmful substance called propyl disulfide, which can oxidize the hemoglobin in a dog's red blood cells, damaging the cells and leading to hemolytic anemia symptoms such as decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and in severe cases, pale or brownish urine (indicating brokendown hemoglobin).

However, eating a small amount usually isn't too dangerous. If your dog accidentally eats a bit, there's no need to panic excessively.

Three: Alcoholic Beverages

Some pet owners might think it's fun to give their dogs a sip of alcoholic drinks, but this is a big mistake!

Any alcoholic beverage should not be given to dogs. Alcohol can excite and then inhibit a dog's central nervous system, leading to vomiting, restlessness, frequent urination, and abnormal behavior. Overconsumption can cause dogs to become unconscious, have difficulty breathing, and even experience heart rate suppression.

Four: Grapes and葡萄 Products

When pet owners eat fruit, they might be tempted to share with their dogs, but be cautious about giving them grapes!

Grapes can cause kidney failure in dogs. Although the exact reason for this is not yet clear, it is known that certain components in grapes are not excreted by a dog's kidneys, making grape toxicity more severe than grapes themselves. After eating grapes, dogs may experience abdominal pain and vomiting, and within twelve hours, kidney toxicity may occur, leading to longterm accumulation and potentially kidney failure.

Five: Cat Food

Many pet owners have both dogs and cats at home. It's common for dogs to finish their own food and then beg for their cat's food, but this can be dangerous.

Cat food and dog food contain different nutrients. Cat food is rich in proteins and fats, which can be difficult for dogs to digest and absorb. Eating too much cat food can not only cause gastrointestinal discomfort and disease but also disrupt a dog's normal digestion, leading to a weakened constitution.
