Creating a Sense of Security for Cats

Cats are inherently sensitive creatures, always keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings. Even the smallest changes in their daily routine can cause them stress, leading to feelings of tension or threat. As a result, they often seek refuge in hidden spots.

In September 2014, veterinarians from Utrecht University in the Netherlands participated in a study on the stress levels of cats in shelters. The study revealed that cats with boxes adapted more quickly to their new environment, experiencing significantly lower stress levels than those without. Moreover, these cats showed a greater interest in interacting with humans. It turns out that almost every cat's first instinct when feeling stressed is to hide away.

Considering this, it's not hard to understand why.

Paper boxes provide the perfect environment for cats to feel secure. They offer a sense of enclosure and a place to hide, allowing cats to relax and unwind in a safe space. Some cat owners have also noticed that their feline friends are quite shy, often retreating to a hiding spot to avoid unknown risks or potential dangers. For instance, when a stranger enters the home, the cat might dart off, only to find a safe haven in a hidden spot.

Therefore, cats view a box as the ultimate sanctuary, where they can hide from danger and feel protected. Even when sprawled out inside, they are in their element.

Providing Comfortable Temperatures for Cats

Paper boxes make excellent insulators, keeping out the cold and allowing cats to warm themselves with their own body heat in the confined space. Cats naturally have higher body temperatures than humans, feeling most comfortable at temperatures between 30℃ and 36℃. As such, cat owners can provide their pets with blankets or snuglyfitting cat beds.

Satisfying a Cat's Natural Hunting Instinct

Hunting is a cat's natural instinct, which is why they remain vigilant and attentive to their surroundings. When hunting, cats need to hide in a concealed location to observe their prey and the environment, waiting for the perfect moment to pounce. Wild cats often seek refuge in trees or caves, while domestic cats naturally gravitate towards boxes for the same reason.

Boxes serve as a cover for cats, making it easier for them to observe and track their prey. Therefore, it's recommended that you don't discard those leftover shipping boxes immediately. Keep them for your feline companions, providing them with a comfortable and stressfree space to relax and enjoy their natural instincts.
